Too-Wit, Too-Wise: The Two Owls I Missed for Three Years

Are you making this photography mistake? Or let’s keep it real, maybe a writing mistake? Are you making the same mistake as me?

I missed this for three years.

I thought it was just one owl. I was way wrong. I had never even taken it off my SD card. For 3 years, this was just a dark, forgettable silhouette photo. It never even made it into my files.

Turns out, I was missing the entire story this whole time. One random day I came across the SD card and looked at it again. I think I said something like “Holy s&#*! There’s 2 owls!!!!!!”

For 3 years I didn’t know there was an owl family growing up just steps from my deck that spring.

It’s a huge lesson in only looking at your photos on your camera. There’s always more information hiding in the shadows than you think. Don’t be lazy—edit your photos! And definitely don’t delete right away. Is there a file in your drafts that you have been sitting on?

Maybe this is your sign to open it up again and move some things around and see what develops from that story.

Share with someone who needs to stop deleting their photos too soon! Or maybe, what they have in their drafts. Don’t delete those either.

Oh, and Happy Owlween too🦉🦉🦉
