(What I no longer plant—and what I plant instead)

Want to know what happens when you plant the right thing?
She came.
This isn’t luck.
It’s intention. She found her way back.
Because I gave her a reason to. This flower isn’t just pretty.
It’s a promise kept. I planted this for someone I’d never met.
I used to garden for color.
Now I garden for life.

Things I don’t do anymore to attract butterflies — and what I do instead:

I don’t plant butterfly bush

āœ…I grow native flowers like milkweed wild bergamot.Ā

I don’t chase butterflies with my camera

āœ…I plant what they love and wait for them to come to me.Ā

I don’t buy intoĀ ā€œpollinator-friendlyā€ labels without checking the plant.

āœ…I research native host plants and build a whole habitat

I don’t bag up all my fallen leaves in the fall like they are trash

āœ…I leave the leaves and let them stay were they are and offer overwintering sites for all kinds of butterflies and other insects.

When I stopped chasing the look of a butterfly garden and started planting what they actually need, they came. And they’ll come to yours too.

🌿 Plant native. Be patient. The wild knows its way back.šŸ›šŸ›
