In these pages, you will find a sampling of what is in bloom, or what is going to seed at particular times of year. Think of it as seeing the seasons through the lens of native plants.
The birds, the plants, the butterflies were the orchestra of an amazing symphonic story for 365 days. I see my backyard and front yard change not with months passing on the calendar. But instead, I notice changes in migration that bring new birds, I notice shadows that cast different lights, and I notice sounds of different creatures creating a host of sounds throughout the day and night. The colors of the different seasons creating a palette on the same tree. A symphony of seasonal choreography…that has been happening for a very long time. My yard is continuously alive speaking out continuously amid constant change. Yet through that change, a constancy as certain as the birds that migrate through.
A Living Calendar
It functions as a living calendar where changes in light and weather alert me to the change of season. There are new visitors, (usually the ones with wings). And all of these changes I began to notice when we added native plants to our yard. As the plants came in one by one, I was witnessing a choreography of sound, sight, scent, and sensation.
